WPLRC History

The Wesley Powell Learning Resource Centre (WPLRC / LRC) was established in 1980 when the High School and College libraries were amalgamated. The LRC serves both the High School and Community College. The building was donated by a German agency, (The Evangelische Zentralsteelle Fur Entwicklungshilfe E.V. Protestant Agency for Development Aid (EZE) Foundation) in 1980. One of the stipulations of the EZE Foundation in donating the LRC was that it should serve not only the EXED academic community but also the community and its immediate environs.

Over the years, various organizations have assisted with the steady increase in the library’s collection. They have by way of donations contributed to the growth of a comprehensive collection organized to meet the needs of the clients. Listed among these donors are: The British High Commission, United States Information Service (USIS) JAMALCO, Food for the Poor, Book Merchants, University Press, U.S. Office of Public Affairs and Nova South Eastern University. Over time there have been significant improvements which have helped to make the services more efficient. Among these are:

  • Improved working conditions for the staff
  • Extended opening hours of the library
  • Increase in number of staff members employed to the LRC
  • Access to more electronic resources, such as online databases and repositories.
  • Addition of a digital common of computers
  • The LRC continues to employ current information strategies to ensure that the needs and demands of its clients are efficiently met in this Information Age.

  • Mondays-Fridays: 8:30am-8pm
  • Saturdays 10:00am-6pm
  • Sundays: Closed


Library Rules

  • No Food and Drink is allowed in the library.
  • Silence should be practised at all times
  • Bags should be left at the counter
